Brigitte & Jack

Ceremony and reception venue:

A ceremony at Milton Abbot Church followed by a marquee reception in the Pentillie Castle & Estate grounds.

We met …

By pure chance on a night out in London

Your first impressions of each other:

Brigitte -  My very first impressions of Jack were simply: capturing, good looking and (after he stopped me to ask for my number the moment I had to leave) - also brave!

Jack - My first impressions of Brigitte were confident, beautiful and cheeky.

How did your proposal happen (when and where)?

On the beach at Mawgan Porth Cornwall in October 2022

Length of engagement:

8 months

In three words, how did you imagine your wedding day?

Full of love

How did you choose your venue?

Jack had been to Pentillie before, but when we came around to see it in late December 2022, we immediately knew that this was the place for us. The grandeur and the nature were exactly what we were looking for. Having the venue for three nights also turned out to be extremely useful as we had a lot of family and guests coming from abroad.

Often the aspect that makes a wedding original to the couple is the detail/theme – tell us about the special details of the day and how you implemented them (colours, theme decorations, centre pieces, favours, photo booths, DIY etc).

Since we had a lot of guests coming from all over the world we wanted to incorporate these multicultural elements into our wedding. For example, the cake was made with an edible print of the world…also we both have German relatives and Brigitte is of Russian origin, so we used different dishes from those countries in our menu, like cold Borsch, the apple strudel for dessert, and the traditional English roast for the main course.

Brigitte was very passionate about creating beautiful flower arrangements herself, she had her own personal vision with her favourite type of flowers and the colour scheme had to reflect a gentle, distinct yet elegant character. It was a lot of fun creating the arrangements and bouquets with the bridesmaids and made a perfect activity for the day before the wedding too.

Beside Hong Kong, Jack spent his childhood in Devon. Therefore it was an easy decision for us to decide on the location, after viewing a few venues we both instantly knew that Pentillie was the right place for us. With the natural beauty, the exclusive rooms and the homely atmosphere we were able to envision our perfect wedding weekend there!

The ceremony was held at Milton Abbot Church, that was Jack’s local church. He knew the vicar for years before, so it was personal to have him on board too. Another personal element was that the music at the church was played live on the violin by one of the bridesmaids, and for confetti Jack’s mum provided the rose petals that she had been drying since the engagement.

Please give a brief account of your wedding planning story i.e., priorities, highs & lows, challenges etc…

We were having so much fun planning the whole wedding and finding all the suppliers for us that would fit us perfectly! I think we’ve been on a constant high since the engagement and I don’t recall any big challenges. We are both very organised and luckily agree on most things, so it was pretty smooth sailing and from choosing the attires to choosing the music - it all has been such exciting moments to go through.

What food did you choose for your day, wedding breakfast and evening buffet, and why?

We wanted a selection of food which represented our cultural backgrounds of English, German and Russian. For this, we had borscht canapes, locally sourced lamb and roast vegetables for main course, and apple strudel for dessert. We also had a stack of cheese wheels, because who doesn’t like cheese!

What was the song for your first dance, and why?

Can’t take my eyes off you, Frankie Valli.

We first danced to it on our first holiday together. It was also a very uplifting song, which people could join in dancing.

What was your favourite part of the wedding?

The ceremony at the church was very special. Jack’s favourite bit was waiting for Brigitte to come down the aisle. Brigitte’s was doing the vows in the church.

What was the most important investment for you? For example, food, drink, clothes, honeymoon?

We really wanted our guests to have a great day, so the food, drink and cake were very important (and very delicious). Likewise, it was important that we had a great band to get people on the dancefloor - and they smashed it!

What is your top tip for other couples?

Enjoy yourselves, take in the day as it goes, and make sure you have some time to yourselves. We had a few moments alone, whether it was the drive in the car from the church to Pentillie, or when we had a photoshoot around Pentillie’s grounds. These were very special moments.
