Chelsea & Jason
Chelsea & Jason
Your names and occupations: Chelsea & Jason, Training Manager and Package Manager.
We met … In Plymouth on the Barbican when we where both on our work Christmas do’s.
How did your proposal happen (when and where)?
Jason took me on a surprise trip to Geneva and on a day trip to the Swiss Alps while we were walking on a glacier he got down on one knee with the most gorgeous engagement ring. After saying I do, we then went to a Michelin Star restaurant to celebrate the magical moment.
Length of engagement: 18 months.
In three words, how did you imagine your wedding day?
Classic
Romantic
Full of laughter
How did you choose your venue?
After looking around 7-8 wedding venues, we paid Pentillie a visit on a cold and dark winter night. Despite the weather, we fell in love with the castle and how not only well kept it is, but also with the homey feel it has. We returned later in spring to one of the open days when we got to see the gardens in all its glory and made the decision to book the venue. The beautiful setting, the fact that Pentillie is dog friendly and the lovely wedding manager, Chrissie, were all key selling points for us.
Often the aspect that makes a wedding original to the couple is the detail/theme – tell us about the special details of the day and how you implemented them (colours, theme decorations, centre pieces, favours, photo booths, DIY etc).
Chelsea loved the romantic theme of Bridgerton which influenced our theme. We loved getting married under the stunning wisteria so incorporated purple into our colour scheme. We also had a string quartet who played a mixture of classical and modern music.
Were you inspired by anyone on social media? Pinterest/Instagram etc?
Yes, we took some inspiration from Pinterest as well as some unique ideas from TikTok.
Please give a brief account of your wedding planning story i.e., priorities, highs & lows, challenges etc…
The weather in England can be very unpredictable, therefore, we were happy with either an outside or inside ceremony. Another high priority item on our list was food. We did a food tasting with the Outside Inn and loved their food, every option they created was incredible. We also loved the fact that we could provide our own alcohol up to after the wedding breakfast, so we could made sure all our guests were well looked after. And last but not least, the music. Our wedding band got everyone on the dance floor and played a great mix of different styles.
Because we opted to have a spring wedding, the flowers were not such an important item for us because the gardens were already stunning.
What food did you choose for your day, wedding breakfast and evening buffet, and why?
For the morning of the wedding we ordered breakfast grazing boxes from Devon Grazing.
Our wedding breakfast was a sit down three course meal which included cauliflower fritters, roast lamb and sticky toffee pudding. For the evening, we served our wedding cake alongside pulled pork baps. The guests complimented us on serving the wedding cake with the evening food rather than at the end of the night as most people got the chance to have some rather than forgetting to take it at the end.
What was your favourite part of the wedding?
One of the most special moments was definitely writing and saying our vows. It was very emotional and unforgettable.
What was the song for your first dance and why?
Dakota by Stereophonics as it was Jason’s late Mum’s favourite song.
What was the most important investment for you? For example, food, drink, clothes, honeymoon?
The most important investment for us was the venue. Pentillie was accessible to everyone we wanted on our day.
What is your top tip for other couples?
Trust when everyone says that the day goes so quickly! If you can afford it, we would recommend having a videographer and two photographers to capture absolutely everything. You will have loads of beautiful memories to always look back.
