Sunnier days are on the way just in time for our last Garden Open Day

Time for a dip in the pool!

At a very tropical 22 degrees, it's time for a dip in the pool! We are offering our Friends of Pentillie members exclusive access to enjoy private use of our outdoor swimming pool. With the weather finally warming up, all Friends members can take advantage of our solar-heated pool when availability allows to enjoy a refreshing swim or simply relax poolside.

If you're not already a Friend, you can still sign up! Memberships are only £30 (valid until December 31st 2024), and pool hire is only £25 per hour for up to 6 people. As a Friend of Pentillie, you will also enjoy discounted access to The Gondoliers and Hamlet (our upcoming outdoor theatres), afternoon tea and special offers throughout the rest of the year.

Young explorer discoveries

Our woodland gardens have been filled with laughter and lively chatter recently as we have had the pleasure of welcoming children from local primary schools to help us with our estate bird survey!

Guided by expert licensed ornithologists David and Ian, these young explorers have learnt a huge amount about bird life, both native and migratory. They have also explored and looked into various bird nests around the estate, not only in the new bird boxes but also in nooks in old walls around the Castle.

So far the school groups have seen wren, robin, blackbird, song thrush, chiffchaff and dunnock nests. Not to mention photos of many more species, and endless quizzes about who’s chirping ‘now’! Some children have even helped to ring a nest of blackbird chicks, while others have been helping us to hand rear 7 pheasant chicks!

Volunteer opportunities with us

Our first Garden Volunteer morning was a great success with sunshine a plenty. Thank you to the volunteers who joined us and eagerly got stuck in to contribute to the restoration of Pentillie's gardens!

Don't worry if you missed the first one, it definitely wasn't the last! We are hoping to continue the volunteer programme throughout the year - on the first Tuesday of every month - and we would love to welcome you. No prior gardening experience is necessary as our expert gardening team will be there to help throughout the morning. Please register your interest by using the button below.

Beyond Paradise has come to an end

Beyond Paradise’s season 2 finale promised drama and it’s safe to say they delivered! We have loved following along and watching all the mystery infold over the last few weeks, and of course, it has been very special to see so many iconic local spots on our screens.

With an announcement of another Christmas special for this year, it luckily won’t be too long before we can dive back into the Shipton Abbott world! If you missed the finale episode, you can still catch up on BBC iPlayer, we would love to know what you thought!

An inspiring way to raise money…

A group of local parents have begun their fundraising journey, walking 120km in 3 days along the recently established Tamar Coast to Coast Way. They started at Morwenstow yesterday morning (Friday 10th May) and will finish in the playground of our nearest primary school, Landulph this Sunday, the 12th May!

Having already reached their target to raise £750 to embellish the facilities at our local primary school, this money will benefit the young learners in various ways. Some of the children will be joining for the last few miles, with a short diversion through the Pentillie estate for less time on the roads; they will also get a close-up view of the bird boxes and nests.

Glorious gardens

Last month, we enjoyed many new blooms around the gardens, from the potted tulips along the terrace to a world of colour in the American Gardens thanks to the rhododendrons, azaleas and bluebells all coming out in a flurry almost at the same time. A riot of colour!

But it doesn't stop there! Our gardeners have been busy sowing seeds, strimming and pruning in preparation for summer. We are beyond excited to see all their hard work flourish this month as the gardens continue to come alive, creating picturesque photo opportunities for upcoming weddings, and enhancing the gardens for guests to explore during Garden Open Day's or during their Pentillie stays.
