What’s up at Pentillie: Summer highlights so far & planning ahead

Let’s catch up…

How is it nearly July? We have had a fabulous 6 weeks since the last newsletter! From mariachi bands, tequila entrances and an oasis of tropical plants at weddings, a growing group of garden volunteers who have been tackling the weeding, multiple family holidays taking advantage of the summerhouse and fire pit, exciting red-listed species being recorded on the estate bird survey, and a family of barn owls getting stronger by the day.

Not to forget Sammie has just returned from the regenerative agriculture show Groundswell, while Ted and the team have been in charge of repairing windows and leaking pipes back at the Castle. It's safe to say we have had a very busy month, but we have enjoyed welcoming so many guests to Pentillie and we can't wait to see what the next half of 2024 has to offer!

Tasty paella from Cornish Delicacies on the 17th for the performance of The Gondoliers, and authentic South Indian dishes from VT Catering on July 24th for the Hamlet performance are now available for pre-order. Food availability on both nights can only be guaranteed by pre-ordering (they will have some spare stock), so please follow the links below to ensure you don't miss out on some great food - tried and tested by Ted, Sarah and Sammie, both caterers are highly recommended! Final chance to enjoy a delicious recipe

The sun has been shining more which means a refreshing summer drink is definitely on the cards. As elderflower blooms start to disappear again, this might be your last chance to try our quick and easy homemade elderflower cordial recipe!

We love adding a dash of the cordial into a Trevethan gin and tonic for a perfect sunny afternoon treat. Trevethan is our favourite local gin, which uses elderflower as one of its main botanicals, making it a particularly good match. Give the recipe a try and let us know what you think!

Don't worry if you have missed the elderflower blooms for this year, luckily you'll have loads of berries to make an elderberry syrup to fight off winter colds or add to winter cocktails!
