Summer is on the way, we promise…the gardens say so. But let’s hope there’s less of these sorts of clouds on the horizon!

A little birdie told me…

Despite the recent weather, we have some early results from ornithologist Dave Scott, who installed over 120 bird boxes around the estate with help from a fantastic team. While it has been a slow start due to the rain, Dave’s team had a quick look around the Castle and grounds this week, finding the nests of robins, blackbirds, as well as song thrush, wren, buzzard and long-tailed tit.

They even spotted shelduck using the rabbit burrows in the same field where we planted 7 oak trees to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We had long suspected they might use the warren, but Dave and his team confirmed that they have been using the burrows!

The volunteers and school groups invited to help us compete the survey will explore the gardens and peek inside the nest boxes over the next few weeks. We are beyond excited to hear about their findings, which we will of course share with you!

Join our team…we’re recruiting!

We are recruiting for a member of our housekeeping team! We have a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic, hard-working individual who can work well within a motivated and friendly team. This position is part-time and will be dependent on the needs of the business and guest changeovers.

The role will involve cleaning all public areas and bedrooms to the highest standard. While housekeeping can be physically challenging on occasion, the role is very rewarding with guest feedback and appreciation of your hard work. Shifts are usually 4-6 hours, and can vary from one to 4 shifts per week, often within school hours, with the occasional weekend days.

If you think you could be the person we are looking for, please click the link below to apply, or share this email with someone you think would be a great fit for the role.

Garden volunteering opportunities

The Pentillie gardens are rich in history dating back to the late 17th century, and with 55 acres of woodland gardens the list of jobs to do around the gardens is very long to say the least! Over time, much of the finesse of Pentillie's gardens has been lost due to several challenges over the years. However, while we currently have our eyes peeled for a new senior gardener, we also have a great team in place who could use an extra pair of hands, and we're hoping that's you.

Recently Sue Bryant has returned to the team, bringing many years of experience in looking after volunteers and teaching young adults in gardens. With this wonderful return, we think this is the perfect time for us to start a volunteer programme in the gardens here at Pentillie ~ we would love you to join us!

We will be hosting our first Garden Volunteer Taster morning on Tuesday 30th of April, 9am to 12 noon. No previous gardening experience is required, just bring your gardening gloves and enthusiasm. If this is something you would be interested in, please complete the form in the button below.

Celebrating 100 years of our nearest primary school!

In less than 4 weeks a group of parents will be walking 120km in 3 days along the recently established Tamara Coast to Coast Way, starting at Morwenstow and finishing in the playground of our nearest primary school, Landulph.

Their aim is to raise £750 which will help to embellish the facilities at the primary school transforming the lives of these young learners. Some of the children will be joining for the last few miles, so we have facilitated a short diversion through the Pentillie estate, enabling less time on the roads and a close up view of many of the aforementioned bird boxes and their inhabitants.

An inspiring way to raise funds to celebrate 100 years of Landulph School.
