Ceremony and reception venue: Bathing Hut and Pentillie Castle

How did you choose your venue?

We’d considered travelling away to Scotland/France looking for a castle style venue – but there was no need as we found Pentillie on our doorstep! As soon as we drove down the beautiful driveway and saw the view over the river we knew it was the venue for us. It’s a magical place that makes you feel very special. And that’s how you should feel on your wedding day!

In 3 words, how did you picture your wedding at the beginning?

  1. Relaxed

  2. Cosy

  3. Elegant

Pentillie provided a fabulous mix of feeling informal and relaxed but at the same time beautifully elegant and regal.

Please give a brief account of your wedding planning story i.e. priorities, highs & lows, challenges etc:

We started out looking at a very small elopement wedding, but it grew into an event with 12 people, a formal dinner and afternoon tea, aerial acrobatics, lawn games and archery. The venue inspired us to make the most of our time there and share the experience with others.

What food did you choose for your day, wedding breakfast and evening buffet and why?

We had a dinner the night before the wedding so our small group of guests could get to know each other. After the ceremony we had an afternoon tea on the terrace which was perfect with our relaxed theme and focus on celebration not formality. We can recommend Corinne from Twirlybatics who performed some dare devil aeroplane acrobatics over the river as a surprise for the guests while we drank champagne and ate cake

What was your favourite part of the day?

My favourite part was walking into the Bathing Hut to the twinkly ‘Butterfly Waltz’ and seeing Adrian eagerly waiting there – the Bathing Hut looked beautiful with flowers and fairy lights and it was just perfect for what we wanted.

What was the most important investment for you i.e food, photography, dress?

We’d have to say going for exclusive hire of the castle. We had the venue to ourselves in the evening and had a relaxed supper with wine and just enjoyed the house listening to music, having a pool/table football competition and enjoying a dip in the swimming pool. (Although closely followed by my dress and shoes!!)

What are your top tips for other couples?

Don’t be afraid to ask for exactly what you want – the day goes by so quickly you need it to be right for you.

Make sure you like your suppliers! I hadn’t realised what a large part of the day they would be and Lisa, Gem, Becca and Nicola were so lovely that they really enhanced the experience of the day.

We can highly recommend Pentillie as a wedding venue – the food was excellent, bedrooms are gorgeous (the four poster and dressing room in the bridal suite was amazing), garden and grounds beautiful and people lovely.
