Gingerbread Decorations
Every year, we make this incredibly easy gingerbread recipe and pop the decorations on the Castle’s Christmas tree - but they don’t seem to hang around for long! Why not give them a go at home this festive season…
Ingredients
110g unsalted butter
100g light muscovado sugar
170g golden syrup
400g plain flour, sifted
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda, sifted
Icing
1 egg white
55g unrefined icing sugar, sifted
A squeeze of lemon juice
Method
Preheat the oven to 190 degrees / Gas Mark 5.
Beat the butter and brown sugar until light and creamy.
Add the golden syrup, sifted flour, ginger and sifted bicarb and mix until you have a smooth dough.
Roll out the dough between sheets of non-stick baking parchment.
Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden. Cool on racks.
Icing
Mix the egg white and sifted icing sugar together thoroughly with a little squeeze of lemon.
Pipe onto decorations.
Leave to set, and enjoy!
